ATHENS, Ga. - A season-high scoring effort by the University of Georgia women's basketball team propelled the Lady Bulldogs past the Troy Trojans, 86-70, before 4,221 spectators for Elementary School Day on Wednesday afternoon at Stegeman Coliseum.

Troy (0-6) jumped out with an early 6-2 lead before Georgia (7-2) used a triple from De'Mauri Flournoy and a jumper in the paint by Destiny Thomas to knot the score at nine. Both teams traded points, tying the game five times, before six unanswered Lady Bulldog points gave Georgia a 19-15 lead after the first period.

Georgia continued to build its lead in the second quarter. Stefanie Ingram ripped five points to fuel a 7-0 scoring run as the Lady Bulldogs led by 10, 31-21. Eight uncontested points in the second half of the frame gave Georgia a boost to carry a 47-31 lead into the locker room at halftime.

The Lady Bulldogs attacked the paint at the starts of the second half, scoring 10 of the first 12 points down low. Georgia then spread scoring around the floor as four Lady Bulldogs contributed to a 20-point lead, 67-47, to head into the final period.

Short scoring spurts fueled the Lady Bulldogs' offense in the fourth quarter. Flournoy and Jordan Cole paced Georgia with five points apiece. Troy tallied 23 points in the last period but were unable to overcome their deficit as Georgia maintained a 16-point lead to win, 86-70.

"I think it's a good thing that the SEC does," head coach Katie Abrahamson-Henderson said. "I've done it everywhere I've been. I think what people don't understand is that it's more than just a basketball game for these young boys and girls that might have never seen a college campus before or never come to a college basketball game. They get to see some role models out there and see a really cool campus. Some of these kids may not even know this campus is here. I wish that their parents could come with them too, so they can see. It gives them the thought that they could be a college basketball player. I could go to college one day. So, I think that's really big that we continue to have this."
