Arkansas' Kirami Yego produced the second fastest winning time of 23:14.1 over an 8,000m distance in the history of the Chile Pepper Festivals to win by a 22.5 second margin in leading Arkansas to a successful team title defense. He led a close trio of Razorbacks at the mile split in 4:40.1, then established a 15.6 second lead at the 5.5k split with a 15:40.1. Yego produced the third fastest time at Agri Park in any collegiate race, trailing a 23:09.9 by Razorback Josphat Boit on a different course layout in the 2004 SEC Championships.

Alabama's Doris Lemngole won the Joe Piane Invitational last weekend with a time of 16:05.9, the best 5K time of the weekend in the SEC. She helped her team to a third place finish in a field that included three other squads ranked in the top-30. It was her second title in as many races to begin her Alabama career. She also finished first in the Southern Showcase on Sept. 15. Lemngole also helped the Crimson Tide to their third consecutive top-four team finish of the 2023 season.

Vanderbilt's Jack DesRoches was the top Commodore finisher at the Joe Piane Invitational with a time of 24:45.7 on the 5-mile course. He was the No. 2 overall freshman and the top freshman finisher in the SEC. He helped lead Vanderbilt to a top-10 team finish in the Gold Division.

South Carolina's Judy Kosgei came away with both a win and a program record for the third consecutive meet. The Kenya native put her name atop the South Carolina 6K record book, winning the Paul Short Run with a time of 19:54.9. Her time broke a program record set in 2019 by a full 44 seconds. Kosgei bested Boston's Hannah Prosser who turned in a time of 19:59.1, holding off the fellow freshman for her third win in as many meets.
