Tigers and Razorbacks set for title match

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. --- Auburn and Arkansas will square off on Sunday in the title match of the Southeastern Conference Men's Golf Championship at Sea Island Golf Club.

The Tigers and the Razorbacks will tee off at 7:30 a.m. The championship match will air on the SEC Network.

On Saturday, top-seeded Auburn dispatched South Carolina 4-1 in the quarterfinals, then fought off Kentucky 3-2. The seventh-seeded Razorbacks needed extra holes in both matches as they beat Vanderbilt 3-2 and Texas A&M 3-2.

"Arkansas is playing great," Auburn head coach Nick Clinard said. "They have great coaches and players, and it's going to be a tough match. Anytime you're in the finals in this league, you can expect a tough match. I just think whoever plays better tomorrow is going to win."

"We're obviously very excited," Arkansas head coach Brad McMakin said. "Having both matches go to extra holes is pretty overwhelming. It's great for our program and something these guys will remember the rest of their lives. ... Auburn has a great team and is playing well. What they shot in stroke play is as good a golf as I've witnessed in 25 years of coaching. But in match play, you've just got to win three. Hopefully we'll put the right group together and come out and have a great day."

Auburn, the defending SEC champion, got 2-0 efforts from Jovan Rebula (who won the SEC medalist crown on Friday) and Brandon Mancheno on Friday. The Tigers also got wins from Jacob Solomon and Greysen Huff in the quarterfinals and a victory from Trace Crowe in the semifinals.

The Razorbacks were buoyed by Luis Garza going 2-0, including a 19-hole clincher in the semifinals. Julian Perico also went 2-0, while Tyson Reeder won in the quarters and William Buhl in the semis.
