Tigers and Bulldogs lead after Day 1

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (May 9, 2019)-----The Mississippi State men and Auburn women currently lead the 2019 Southeastern Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships following the opening day of competition at John McDonnell Field on the campus of the University of Arkansas.

The Mississippi State men currently lead the way with 24 team points, while Arkansas is second with 22 and Florida is third with 20. Alabama has 15, followed by Texas A&M (10), Georgia (8), LSU (5), Kentucky (4), Ole Miss (4), Tennessee (3) and Auburn (2).

The Auburn women lead with 16 points, while Florida and Missouri are tied for second with 11. Ole Miss and Texas A&M are tied for fourth with 10 points, followed by Georgia (6), Mississippi State (5), South Carolina (5) and Alabama (4).

Georgia's Karel Tilaga leads the men's decathlon with a total of 4,087 points, and Texas A&M's Tyra Gittens currently holds the lead in the women's heptathlon with a total of 3,599.

Individual champions crowned Thursday were: Florida's Thomas Mardal in the men's hammer (73.00m/239-6), Auburn's Kylee Carter in the women's javelin (55.26m/181-3), Mississippi State's Anderson Peters in the men's javelin with an SEC Championship record 83.35m/273-5, Alabama's Gilbert Kigen in the men's 10,000m (29:27.77) and Florida's Jessica Pascoe in the women's 10,000m (34:08.41).
