Seven SEC teams qualify for National Golf Championship

Charlotte, NC - After three days of competition, the regional round of the 2023 NCAA DI men's golf championship has reached its end.

Thirty teams, five from each of the six regions, have qualified for the finals scheduled for May 26-31 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona. Out of the thirty teams that advanced, the SEC claimed seven of those spots in the 2023 NCAA DI men's golf national championship.

For the 27th time in program history, Auburn shot an even par 288 in the final round of the NCAA Regional hosted by Auburn University Club to finish first and punch their ticket to the nationals championship. Vanderbilt finished in second place at even par of the NCAA Auburn Regional and advanced to its ninth straight NCAA Championships.

Georgia claimed the team and individual championships at the NCAA Golf Bath Regional hosted by Clemson University. The Bulldogs and senior Ben van Wyk completed their wins at Eagle Eye Golf Club. With the win, Georgia becomes the first school since 2016 to sweep the team and individual championships in both a men's and women's golf regional.

Florida entered the final round at the NCAA Golf Bath Regional, seven shots behind the top-five cut line. The Gators answered the challenge by posting a round three-best 12-under team score that netted a fourth-place finish and advanced them to the NCAA Championships.

For the fifth time in school history, and first time since 2014, Alabama claimed a regional championship. All five Crimson Tide golfers finished among the top 25 individuals to help capture the NCAA Norman Regional Men's Golf with a combined team total of 28-under par 836.

Mississippi State punched its ticket to the NCAA Men's Golf Championship after winning the Morgan Hill Regional as the only team below par. Four Bulldogs finished among the top 15 individuals.

Arkansas shattered its overall school records, while three Razorbacks tied or broke previous program marks for lowest score at an NCAA Regional, to finish second at the NCAA Salem Regional and advance to the NCAA Championships.

Texas A&M men's golf team fought off elimination on the final day of the NCAA Salem Regional, topping the host Clemson Tigers in a one-hole playoff to finish in fifth place and claim the final ticket to the NCAA Championship.

NCAA Championship play consists of three days of stroke play on Friday, May 26 thru Sunday, May 28 (54 holes), after which the top 15 teams and nine individuals not on an advancing team will be determined. That is followed by a final day of 18 holes of stroke play on Monday, May 29 to determine the top eight teams that will advance to match play as well as the 72-hole individual champion.

The team national champion will be determined by a match-play format that will consist of quarterfinals and semifinals conducted on Tuesday, May 30, followed by finals on Wednesday, May 31.

The NCAA Division I men's golf national championship will be held May 26-31 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona.
