Seven former SEC players on MLB World Series rosters
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (Oct. 27, 2023)----- Seven former SEC baseball players were included on 2023 MLB World Series active rosters of the Texas Rangers and Arizona Diamondbacks.
The Rangers' roster includes six players formerly from SEC schools: Dane Dunning (Florida), Nathaniel Lowe (Mississippi State), Jordan Montgomery (South Carolina), Max Scherzer (Missouri), Josh Smith (LSU) and Chris Stratton (Mississippi State). The Diamondbacks' roster includes Christian Walker (South Carolina).
A total of 30 players formerly from SEC schools were on active rosters of teams in the first three rounds of the playoffs.
The Texas Rangers won the organization's first World Series title, 4-1, behind a roster that featured the most SEC athletes of any MLB Postseason team.
