HOOVER, Ala. - No. 7 seed Ole Miss (42-16) took advantage of an off day by No. 2 seed South Carolina's (42-14) Clarke Schmidt (9-3), beating the Gamecocks 10-4 in Game 6 of the 2016 SEC Baseball Tournament, the first round of double elimination play. The Rebels scored eight of their 10 runs with two outs.

South Carolina swept Ole Miss in a three-game series during regular season play in March.

Schmidt allowed a season-high seven runs against Ole Miss batters. Gamecock pitchers allowed 12 hits with four errors. The Gamecocks have now lost seven straight SEC Tournament games, the fifth-longest losing streak in conference tournament history.

Facing two outs with Tate Blackman on first, Ole Miss batter J.B. Woodman hit an RBI double, then scored on a shortstop error, giving the Rebels an early 2-0 lead in the first inning.

Ole Miss extended its lead in the third inning when a Henri Lartigue single brought in runners Errol Robinson (hit by pitch) and Woodman (walked). Lartigue scored from third when Colby Bortles reached on a fielding error, putting the Rebels up 5-0.

"Some of our guys weren't swinging it well (in the regular season) and are swinging it well now," Rebels head coach Mike Bianco said. "Collectively as an offense we're much better than we were a couple of months ago."

The Gamecock offense showed signs of life in the bottom of the third. Alex Destino popped a 2 RBI double to right field, closing the gap to three runs, 5-2.

The Rebels added another pair of runs in the fifth inning. A 2 RBI double by Bortles brought in Lartigue and Woodman to extend the Ole Miss lead to 7-2.

South Carolina chipped away at the Rebels' lead in the bottom of the seventh, scoring two runs from three hits, one off an Ole Miss error, the other off a Jonah Bride RBI single, narrowing the lead to 7-4.

Lartigue snuffed out any hope South Carolina had of a comeback by blasting a three-run homer, putting the Rebels up 10-4. It was Lartigue's fourth home run on the year and his third four-hit. Two of those four-hit games were against South Carolina.

"We're not a team that's going to get 15 hits a game," Lartigue said. "We're all about the timely hit. That's what we've been able to do well."

Ole Miss is 27-0 when scoring at least seven runs this season.
