Rebels round out regular season with win over Kentucky
OXFORD, Miss. -Kelly Brady took center stage once again Thursday night, scoring the game-winning goal as Ole Miss shut out Kentucky 1-0 to close out their regular season in Oxford. The win put the Rebels in a position to potentially make the SEC Tournament, but ultimately were kept out due to conference tiebreaker rules.
Ole Miss (7-7-3, 3-5-2 SEC) had the upper hand from start to finish, outshooting Kentucky (9-3-5, 3-3-4 SEC) by six total shots and holding them to just two shots on goal. Brady took five total shots in the match as the ball found her feet all night long. She put two of them on goal before she was called upon to take the game-winning penalty kick.
Shu Ohba posted her seventh shutout of the year making two saves to keep the Wildcats off the board. Ohba finishes the season putting together a clean sheet in half of the matches she started in and allowing just 13 goals on 184 shots faced.
Ole Miss came out aggressive and in control, taking eight shots in the first half while allowing Kentucky to take just two. Neither team were able to break through in the opening 45 minutes as they went into halftime in a scoreless tie.
It wasn't until the 85th minute that the Rebels saw their luck change, being awarded a penalty kick for a Wildcat foul in their attacking end. Brady lined up to take the kick and put it into the right side of the net as the goalkeeper broke to the left.
For Brady it was her eighth goal of the season, third penalty kick goal of the season, and fourth game-winning goal of the season. She finishes her first season as a Rebel in a tie for the fifth-most goals in the SEC. Her eight goals are the most by a Rebel since 2021 and the fourth-highest total since 2019.
Her goal was all Ole Miss would need as they closed out the win and moved to seven victories on the season.
