MS State wins pitcher's duel vs. in-state foe Ole Miss
PEARL, Miss. - The Mississippi State Bulldogs hoisted the Governor's Cup on Tuesday, as the Dawgs picked up the victory over Ole Miss by a score of 2-1. The pitching led the way for the Bulldogs in the midweek matchup with the Rebels.
The Bulldogs picked up ten strikeouts as a staff, allowing only four hits and one earned run. Evan Siary was credited with his first victory of the year after he allowed a single hit in two complete innings. Brock Tapper, Parker Stinnett and Tyson Hardin entered down the stretch, as they worked the next 5.1 innings. They all held the Rebels to one hit in their outings. KC Hunt struck out the two batters he faced in the eighth. Aaron Nixon picked up his second save of the year after striking out two of three batters in the ninth.
Luke Hancock and Hunter Hines provided the offense the Dawgs needed. Hines' double in the first inning gave the Bulldogs the lead early. Luke Hancock went 2-for-4 with an RBI double to extend the State lead to 2-0. David Mershon and Amani Larry both picked hits in the contest as well.
The Bulldogs are back in Southeastern Conference play this weekend as they head to Knoxville to take on the Tennessee Volunteers. First pitch for Thursday's matchup is set for 7 p.m. ET and will broadcast on the SEC Network.
