SEC Golfers of the Week: March 22

MEN

GOLFER OF THE WEEK

 Jake Hall, Tennessee

  • Hall earned the first individual title of his career at the All-American Intercollegiate in Houston with an overall score of 209 (-7). Hall held at least a share of the lead throughout the tournament, and in round three shot even par to claim sole possession of the title. It marks the third top-five finish of his career.
  • He was one of 12 players in the 108-man field to tally an under-par score at the All-American Intercollegiate. The Knoxville native led Tennessee in the first two rounds with a 4-under 68 and 3-under 69-also providing an additional counting round on the final day to guide the Vols to tie for second place as a team.
  • Made 10 birdies and had an eagle throughout the three rounds.

 Brett Schell, Ole Miss

  • Schell was named medalist for the All-American Intercollegiate Individual Tournament. Schell had a standout second round, going bogey-free for all 18 holes while making seven birdies - four being back-to-back on Holes 14, 15, 16, and 17.
  • His second-round score of 65 (-7) launched him up the individual leaderboard to first place as he has a two-stroke lead for the title.
  • The next day, Schell put in three birdies and an eagle in his final round to claim the honor by three strokes at 9-under overall.
  • This is Schell's first individual tournament win in his career.

FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK

 Nick Dunlap, Alabama

  • Freshman Dunlap secured the individual medalist honor at the Linger Longer Invitational with a 10-under par 206 (70-66-70).
  • In doing so, Dunlap led the Crimson Tide to the team tournament title (-14) which marked the team's second win of the year and first of the spring season.
  • Dunlap became the first UA freshman to win a tournament since 2014 (Robby Shelton).
  • Dunlap would go on to finish tied for first in par 5 scoring (-8, 4.33) and par 3 scoring (-2, 2.83).
  • He is the fourth Alabama golfer to win medalist honors at the Linger Longer, joining Bud Cauley (2010), Cory Whitsett (2011, 2012, 2013) and Lee Hodges (2018).
  • Dunlap has now collected a team-leading 17 rounds of par or better.

WOMEN

GOLFER OF THE WEEK

 Miriam Ayora, Arkansas

  • Ayora paced the Razorbacks for the fourth time this season, after firing away a career-low 7-under 209 (70-70-69) at the MountainView Collegiate at the MountainView Golf Club in Tucson, Arizona.
  • She finished the tournament in 11th place to lead all other SEC golfers in the field. The junior finished under par in all three rounds, including a season-low 69 in the final round, which was accomplished with five of her 14 birdies over the week.
  • Ayora sported the fourth best par 5s average with a 4.5 average. This season, Ayora has logged 10 rounds at par or under and 66 birdies, which both pace the team.

FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK

 Meghan Royal, Arkansas

  • Royal is coming off a career-low 3-under 213 (74-69-70) at the MountainView Collegiate, tallying the second lowest score for the Razorbacks in Tucson, Arizona.
  • The freshman's best round came in the second, as she logged her first career round in the 60s with a 69, which was done behind four birdies and one bogey.
  • Her 41 pars were the third most among the field, while delivering the 16th best par 4s average at 3.9.
  • She finished the week with a tie for 22nd. Heating up during her first-year campaign, Royal has logged 37 birdies and six rounds at par or under for the Razorbacks.
