HOOVER, Ala. -- No. 2 seed LSU defeated No. 10 seed Missouri 10-3 in a rain-delayed second-round matchup in the SEC Tournament.

Senior Cole Freeman went 4-for-4 at the plate, including a three-run blast in the eighth inning, to lead the LSU offense.

"I saw his breaking ball pretty well," said Freeman about his final at-bat. "I was hoping he was just going to throw me a fast ball right there. You know, he did and luckily I didn't miss it."

Both teams entered the contest on a seven-game win streak, tied for the longest active streak in the SEC. LSU is now 12-0 all-time against Missouri and earned its 40th win of the season. It's the program's sixth straight 40-win season.

LSU started building its lead in the bottom of the third inning. A double from Zach Watson sent Michael Papierski across the plate from first, tying the game at 1-1. LSU took the lead on a sac fly by Freeman and added another run when Antoine Duplantis singled to drive in Kramer Robertson. LSU continued to pull away with an RBI single by Nick Coomes, finishing the frame with a 4-1 advantage.

In the bottom of the fifth, Duplantis dropped a bunt single to score Robertson and make it 5-1. Rain moved in during the inning, suspending the game for 1 hour, 21 minutes.

Nolan Gromacki relieved Missouri starter T.J. Sikkema after the delay and Coomes hit an RBI groundout off the RHP to extend LSU's lead. After Gromacki hit Beau Jordan with a pitch, Missouri went to the bullpen again, calling in Brian Sharp. After Mizzou's third pitcher of the night gave up an RBI double to Robertson in the eighth, RHP Cameron Dulle entered the game.

LSU also brought in a new pitcher following the weather break, with Nick Bush taking over on the mound after five solid innings from Hoover native Caleb Gilbert (4-1). Bush gave up three hits but no runs over two innings. Zack Hess and Matthew Beck closed out the final two frames on the bump for LSU.

Missouri struck early with a solo home run by Kameron Misner in the top of the second, the seventh home run of the year for the freshman, but didn't score again until an RBI single in the eighth and a solo home run in the ninth.

The victory marked the 500th win for coach Paul Mainieri at LSU. "I think the guys are playing well now," said Mainieri. "We know what we have as a team. They're playing really good, solid baseball in every phase and I think we're going to be a team to be reckoned with."

UP NEXT: Missouri will play No. 11 seed South Carolina in an elimination game on Thursday. LSU continues in double-elimination play, facing No. 3 seed Kentucky next.
