LSU clinches No. 1 seed in SEC Championship match play
HOOVER, Ala. (April 14, 2023) - No. 3 LSU, No. 7 Auburn, No. 10 Texas A&M, No. 19 Vanderbilt, No. 5 Mississippi State, No. 21 Florida, No. 4 South Carolina and No. 16 Ole Miss finished in the top-eight of stroke play Friday to advance to the match play portion of the SEC Women's Golf Championship at Greystone's Legacy Course.
LSU shot a 4-under 284, the lowest round of the week, for a three-round total of 870. Auburn (292) was second at 881, while Texas A&M (289-885) was third. Vanderbilt (291-887) was fourth, followed by Mississippi State (293-890), Florida (292-891), South Carolina (299-894) and Ole Miss (290-894) to round out the top-eight.
No. 30 Georgia (295-892) placed ninth, ahead of Alabama (301-903), Tennessee (299-905), Kentucky (304-905), Arkansas (298-916) and Missouri (304-927).
Mississippi State sophomore Julia Lopez Ramirez (212) birdied the final hole on Friday to win the individual title with a 4-under 68 in the third round. She is the second MSU women's golfer to win the SEC title and first since Carri Wood in 1992. Auburn's Megan Schofill (74-213) was runner-up.
The eight advancing teams will begin play in the quarterfinals Saturday at 7 a.m. CT. The semifinals will be held Saturday afternoon. Quarterfinal matchups are LSU vs. Ole Miss, Auburn vs. South Carolina, Texas A&M vs. Florida, and Vanderbilt vs. Mississippi State.
This marks the 10th year for the SEC Championship to be contested at the Greystone Golf and Country Club just outside of Birmingham. The event consists of three days of stroke play, with the top eight teams advance to match play.
The championship match on Sunday is slated to be televised live on the SEC Network. Live scoring is available at www.SECsports.com and www.golfstat.com.
