Hogs stun Gamecocks in quarters
GREENVILLE, S.C. - No. 10 seed Arkansas upset No. 2 seed South Carolina 95-89 in the quarterfinals of the 2019 SEC Women's Basketball Tournament, disappointing the audible Gamecock contingent in attendance at Bon Secours Wellness Arena.
South Carolina had won four consecutive conference tournaments and had its 12-game win streak in the SEC Tournament snapped.
Chelsea Dungee scored 31 points to carry the Razorbacks, who made 11 3-pointers and shot 50 percent from long range in the game. Mikiah Herbert Harrigan and Tyasha Harris were the high scorers for South Carolina, tallying 27 and 24 points, respectively.
Though Arkansas led for much of the game, the Gamecocks had the edge entering the final frame.
Harris banked home a transition 3-pointer as time expired in the third quarter, giving the Gamecocks a 74-73 lead. The Hogs had to win the fourth quarter to complete the upset, and they did so in emphatic fashion, outscoring South Carolina 22-15 down the stretch.
Arkansas advances to Saturday's semifinals to face No. 3 seed Texas A&M. The game will be broadcast on ESPNU and available to stream live on the ESPN app.
