Four Events Completed on Day Two of Men's Swimming
Four events were completed on the second night of the 2021 SEC Men's Swimming Championship at the Mizzou Aquatics Center.
Kieran Smith of Florida defended his title in the 500 free, tying the NCAA, American and U.S. Open records mark he recorded last year of 4:06.32. Jake Magahey of Georgia placed second with a time of 4:06.71, and Trey Freeman of Florida came in third place with a time of 4:12.76.
Shane Caisas of Texas A&M won the 200 IM for the second consecutive year with a pool record time of 1:39.26. Danny Kovac of Missouri was runner-up with a time of 1:41.35, and Javier Acevedo of Georgia took third place with a time of 1:42.17.
Adam Chaney of Florida claimed the gold medal in the 50 free with an NCAA A-cut time of 18.77. Matt King of Alabama finished second with a time of 18.96. Dillon Downing of Georgia and Brooks Curry of LSU tied for third place, each registering a time of 19.16.
Closing out the evening session, Florida claimed the top spot in the 200 free relay as Chaney, Will Davis, Smith and Eric Friese recorded an SEC meet record time of 1:15.21. Downing, Acevedo, Camden Murphy and Luca Urlando placed second with a time of 1:16.20. King, Sam DiSette, Jonathan Berneberg and Colton Stogner of Alabama finished third with a time of 1:16.32.
The third day of the 2021 SEC Men's Swimming Championship is slated to begin on Thursday, February 25 at 10 a.m. CT with the prelims for the 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breaststroke and 100 back. The finals for those events plus the 400 medley relay will begin at 6 p.m. CT. Both sessions can be seen on SEC Network+.
