Florida Wins SEC Men's Swimming & Diving Championship
Florida won the 2021 SEC Men's Swimming & Diving Championship at the Mizzou Aquatic Center.
The Gators earned their ninth consecutive and 42nd overall SEC title with 1,401 points. Georgia finished second in the team standings with 1,324.50 points. Tennessee was third with 850.50 points.
Bobby Finke of Florida won the 1650 free for the third consecutive year, recording the second fastest time in history of 14:12.18. Georgia claimed the next two podium spots, with Jake Magahey posting a time of 14:24.96 and Greg Reed registering a time of 14:52.82.
Shaine Casas of Texas A&M defended his title in the 200 back after recording an SEC record time of 1:36.85. Javi Acevedo of Georgia placed second with a time of 1:40.39, and Clark Beach of Florida finished third with a time of 1:40.83.
In the 100 free, Matt King of Alabama captured the gold with his NCAA A-cut time of 41.66. Brooks Curry of LSU was second at 41.80, while Kieran Smith of Florida came in third at 42.11.
Lyubomir Epitropov of Tennessee took the top spot in the 200 breaststroke, touching the wall first at 1:52.69. Jack Dalmolin of Georgia was second with his time of 1:53.58, and Michael Houlie of Tennessee placed third with a time of 1:53.97.
Georgia went 1-2 200 fly as Luca Urlando posted the winning time of 1:40.93 and Camden Murphy placed second with a time of 1:41.12. Danny Kovac of Missouri came in third place with a time of 1:41.24.
In the 400 free relay, Alabama set the pool record as King, Sam DiSette, Jonathan Berneburg and Colton Stogner posted a time of 2:48.22 to win the final event. Smith, Adam Chaney, Trey Freeman and Eric Friese of Florida were second with a time of 2:48.85. Ben Patton, Kyle Leach, Grant Reed and Kovac of Missouri finished third with a time of 2:50.68.
The Commissioner's Trophy, which is presented to the student-athletes who score the most individual points at the championships, was awarded to Smith and Casas. Smith was also named the SEC Men's Swimmer of the Meet.
