Florida men, Texas A&M women lead SEC Championships

Athens, Ga. - The Florida men and Texas A&M women are in the lead at the 2019 SEC Swimming & Diving Championships after day three of the event at Georgia's Gabrielsen Natatorium.

To begin the evening session, Emma Barksdale of South Carolina won the women's 400 IM with a time of 4:01.52. Vanessa Pearl of Florida took second with a time of 4:03.56, and Monika Gonzalez-Hermosillo of Texas A&M finished third with a time of 4:05.55.

Florida swept the podium in the men's 400 IM, as Robert Finke touched the wall first with a time of 3:40.94, followed by Kieran Smith (3:41.50) and Grant Sanders (3:42.87).

Erika Brown of Tennessee tied the SEC meet record she set a year ago in the women's 100 fly with her winning time of 49.85. Alyssa Tetzloff claimed the silver with her time of 50.94, and Ann Ochitwa earned the bronze with her time of 51.25.

First place in the men's 100 fly went to Maxime Rooney of Florida, who finished with a time of 45.06. Liam McCloskey of Auburn took second (45.11), while Camden Murphy of Georgia placed third (45.26).

In the women's 200 free, Erin Falconer became the first Auburn Tiger to win this event at the SEC Championships in a decade with her top time of 1:43.04. Megan Small of Tennessee came in second at 1:43.37 and Courtney Harnish of Georgia in third at 1:43.53.

Mikel Schreuders of Missouri topped his own SEC meet record in the 200 free that he set Tuesday night after placing first this evening with a time of 1:31.27. Joey Reilman of Tennessee placed second with a time of 1:32.35, and Khader Baqlah of Florida took third with a time of 1:32.71.

In the final event of the night, Zhipeng (Colin) Zeng won the men's 3-meter springboard with an SEC meet record score of 483.15. Kurtis Mathews of Texas A&M came in second at 444.05, followed by Mingli Zhang of Kentucky with a score of 439.50.

The 2019 SEC Swimming & Diving Championships continues on Friday, Feb. 22 at 10 a.m. ET with the preliminaries for the 200 fly, 100 back, 100 breast and women's platform diving, followed by the finals of those four events plus the 400 medley relay starting at 6 p.m. ET. Both sessions can be viewed on SEC Network+.
