Florida holds lead as eight teams head to match play

HOOVER, Ala.- Florida, South Carolina, Arkansas, Vanderbilt, Georgia, Auburn, Mississippi State and Ole Miss finished in the top-eight of stroke play Friday to advance to the match play portion of the SEC Women's Golf Championship at Greystone's Legacy Course.

Florida (296) finished with a three-day team best score of 1-under par 863, while South Carolina (292) finished second in stroke play at 1-over 865. Arkansas (290-868) was third, followed by Vanderbilt (293-877), Georgia (303-882), Auburn (300-882), Mississippi State (299-891) and Ole Miss (304-892) to round out the top-eight.

LSU (305-896) was ninth, ahead of Tennessee (303-897), Alabama (305-898), Missouri (303-900), Texas A&M (311-904) and Kentucky (307-910).

Arkansas' Maria Fassi shot a 1-under 71 to win the individual title with a three-day total of 6-under 210. This marks the third time an Arkansas student-athlete has won the SEC individual title and first since Stacy Lewis in 2008.

The quarterfinal matches will feature No. 1 Florida vs. No. 8 Ole Miss, No. 2 South Carolina vs. No. 7 Mississippi State, No. 3 Arkansas vs. No. 6 Auburn and No. 4 Vanderbilt vs. No. 5 Georgia. Play begins at 7 a.m. CT on Saturday with the semifinals to follow later in the day.

This marks the seventh consecutive year for the Southeastern Conference Championship to be contested at the Greystone Golf and Country Club just outside of Birmingham.

The 2019 event is the second in which the championship is extended to five days, with match play on Saturday and Sunday. The championship match on Sunday, April 21 will also be televised live on the SEC Network.
