Florida, Auburn tied atop leaderboard after first round

HOOVER, Alabama -- The No. 12 Florida and No. 14 Auburn women's golf teams carded a 4-under par 284 on Wednesday and stand in a tie for first place after the opening round of the SEC Women's Golf Championship at Greystone's Legacy Golf Course.

No. 11 South Carolina is third on the team leaderboard with a 1-under par 287, followed by No. 6 Arkansas (291) and No. 40 Georgia (293).

On a day where the Legacy Course at Greystone proved highly challenging, Florida, Auburn and South Carolina were the only squads to card rounds below par.

Individually, Auburn's Julie McCarthy is the leader after one round of play, posting a 4-under par 68 on Wednesday. Julia Johnson of Ole Miss and Marta Perez SanMartin of Florida are right behind the leader after an opening-round 69.

This marks the seventh consecutive year for the Southeastern Conference Championship to be held at the Greystone Golf and Country Club just outside of Birmingham, Alabama. The 2019 event will mark the second straight in which the championship will extend to five days, with Match Play on Saturday, April 20 and Sunday, April 21. Three rounds of stroke play will occur the opening three rounds of the SEC Championship. The championship match on Sunday, April 21 will be televised live on SEC Network.
