Florida, Arkansas lead after Day 1 of SEC Championships

COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS -- The Florida men's and Arkansas women's teams lead the 2018 Southeastern Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships following the first day of competition here Friday at the Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium.

The Florida men currently lead the team standings with 30.5 points while Alabama is second with 28 points, Georgia is third with 26, followed by Arkansas (24), Kentucky (15), Texas A&M (13.5), South Carolina (8), LSU (4), Missouri (4) and Tennessee (3).

The Arkansas women currently lead the team standings with 41 points while Georgia is second with 38 points and Florida is third with 29. Kentucky (21) stands fourth, followed by Ole Miss (13), Alabama (13), Missouri (11), Texas A&M (10), South Carolina (9) and Tennessee (5).

Individual champions crowned Arkansas senior Taliyah Brooks won the women's pentathlon with a score of 4,422. She is the fourth Razorback to win the pentathlon and the first since 2013.

Other women's champions crowned on Saturday include: Missouri's Karissa Schweizer in the 3000m (9:00.56), Kentucky's Olivia Gruver in the pole vault (4.67m/15-3¾), Georgia's Kate Hall in the long jump (6.64m/21-9½) and Florida's Lloydricia Cameron in the shot put (17.65m/57-11).

Men's champions from Saturday were Arkansas' Cameron Griffith in the 3000m (7:54.19), Georgia's Denzel Comenentia in the weight throw (23.71m/77-9 ½), Texas A&M's Will Williams in the long jump (7.99m/26-2¾), and Alabama's Shelby McEwen in the high jump (2.24m/7-4¼).

Records set

Schweizer set a new record in the women's 3000m with a 9:00.56. The previous record was 9:10.48 by Cory Mcee of Florida in 2014.

Gruver broke the meet record in the women's pole vault with a 4.67m (15-3¾). The previous record was set by Arkansas' Sandi Morris in 2015 (4.66m; 15-3½).

Griffith's 7:54.19 in the men's 3000m is a new record, breaking the previous mark of 7:55.56 set by Dorian Ulrey of Arkansas in 2009.
