TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The sixth-seeded Alabama soccer team (12-4-5) captured a 2-0 victory over Western Carolina (13-5-3) on Friday night to advance to the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament for the third straight season.

Goals from Macy Clem (11th minute) and Itala Gemelli (82nd minute) highlighted the Crimson Tide in the victory. UA has now won six NCAA Tournament games, all under head coach Wes Hart, and will make its third appearance in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament in as many years.

From Head Coach Wes Hart
"Really pleased. You know it's not easy, first of all, to get into the NCAA Tournament, then on top of that, to qualify for the second round. We are certainly pleased with the fact that we're still competing this late in the season. It's three years in a row for us that we've gotten to the second round, after 25-plus years of never getting there, and now, three years in a row. So I think that says a lot about the program and where we're at and where we're headed. But, just really pleased overall."

The Game

  • Macy Clem put the Crimson Tide on the score board in the opening 11 minutes of the game, volleying a corner kick by Marianna Annest into the upper left corner of the goal
  • Itala Gemelli would put the game out of reach after cutting across the top of the box and finding the lower left corner of the goal in the 82nd minute
  • The Tide outshot the Catamounts, 16-8, which included a 12-4 advantage in the second half
  • Clem's goal was her first of the season as Gemelli netted her third shot this year
  • Coralie Lallier made four saves in the game as she tallied her fourth clean sheet of the season

Next

  • Alabama will head to Lubbock, Texas, to face third-seeded North Carolina
  • The two teams will go head-to-head for the second time this season, and the first time in the NCAA Tournament on Friday, Nov. 17
