Bama's Routliffe wins women's doubles in 2023 US Open
FLUSHING MEADOWS, N.Y. - Former Alabama tennis standout Erin Routliffe and teammate Gaby Dabrowski defeated Vera Zvonareva and Laura Siegemund 7-6(9) 6-3 to win their first Grand Slam title at the 2023 US Open on Sunday.
Routliffe and Dabrowski defeated No. 6 and No. 8 in the quarterfinals and semifinals, respectfully, before upsetting No. 12 Zvonareva/Siegemund in the finals. The duo battled through and secured the opening set after winning the tiebreak 11-9.
Routliffe and Dabrowski quickly won the first three games of set two and eventually would take the lead, 5-3. The two fell behind 15-40 in the final game before coming back to claim the title.
