HOOVER, Ala. -- No. 9 Auburn downed No. 8 Kentucky, 6-3 to advance to day two in the SEC Baseball Tournament.

Auburn pitcher Cole Lipscomb counted for nine strikeouts through the first 7.2 innings and held Kentucky to four hits. Justin Camp closed out the game for the Tigers with three hits, a run and a strikeout.

"(Cole) is very consistent, probably one of our most consistent pitchers week in and week out," said Auburn's Jackson Burgreen. "He does the exact same thing and we just have all the confidence in him. They only got four hits off him. That's unbelievable."

Auburn's defense kept Kentucky scoreless through six innings. Auburn scored first in the third inning on a Daniel Robert single, and again scored two runs on Burgreen's triple. The hit was the first triple against Kentucky's Zack Brown since 2013.

"We're going to coach what we have," said Auburn head coach Sunny Golloway. "If you get have guys who can runt and bunt and slide, then we're just going to run and bunt and slide. I don't care as long as someone steps on home and puts a run on the board. Every year, if you want to get to Omaha, you have to work with what you've got."

Kentucky's Ka'ia Tom put the Wildcats on the scoreboard in the bottom of the seventh with a single home run to right field. In the eighth, Kyle Barrett hit a scoring single, followed by an Evan White single and a Tom single, which hit in another run for the Wildcats.

"It's day-by-day," Burgreen said. "This is my first-ever win in an SEC Tournament and it's going to be fun going up against the number one team in the country."

Auburn improves to 35-22 on the season, while Kentucky falls to 30-25. Auburn will play top-seeded LSU Wednesday in game 7 at 4:30 p.m. CT in the double-elimination portion of the tournament on SEC Network.
