Auburn men, UK, UT women lead SEC Swimming & Diving
COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Auburn men along with the Kentucky and Tennessee women lead the 2016 SEC Swimming & Diving Championships following the opening day of the event at the Mizzou Aquatics Center on the campus of the University of Missouri.
Starting off the evening session, Kahlia Warner of Florida won the women's 1-meter springboard with a final score of 346.10. Rebecca Hamperian from Kentucky took second with a score of 333.75, while Olivia Ball of Georgia came in third with a final score of 324.95.
Tennessee set a pool record in the women's 200 medley relay, as Kira Toussaint, Madeline Banic, Harper Bruens and Faith Johnson finished in first place with a time of 1:35.86. Texas A&M captured second place with a time of 1:36.13, and Georgia took third with a time of 1:36.28.
Florida tied the SEC meet record in the men's 200 medley relay as Jack Blyzinskyj, Caeleb Dressel, Jan Switkowski and Corey Main finished with a winning time of 1:23.69. Auburn came in second (1:23.74), while Alabama took third place (1:23.75).
Texas A&M freshman diver Sam Thornton took the top spot in the men's 3-meter springboard with a final score of 411.15. Kentucky's Seb Masterson earned second with a score of 408.10, and Tennessee's Mauricio Robles placed third with a score of 402.85.
Georgia's quartet of Hali Flickinger, Meaghan Raab, Shauna Lee and Brittany MacLean posted the fastest time in the women's 800 free relay with a time of 6:55.56, setting the pool record for the event. Texas A&M finished second (7:01.00), and Florida came in third place (7:03.44).
Florida's foursome of Pawel Werner, Mark Szaranek, Mitch D'Arrigo and Switkowski also set the pool record in the men's 800 free relay with a final time of 6:13.64. Auburn earned second place with a time of 6:15.59, and Georgia finished third in a time of 6:17.40.
Day two of the 2016 SEC Swimming & Diving Championships begins on Wednesday, Feb. 18 at 10 a.m. CT with the prelims for the 500 free, 200 IM, 50 free and men's 1-meter, followed by the finals of those along with the 200 free relay starting at 6 p.m. CT. Both sessions can be viewed on SEC Network+.
