Arkansas sweeps 2021 SEC Cross Country Championships
COLUMBIA, Missouri (Oct. 29, 2021) -- The University of Arkansas claimed the 2021 Southeastern Conference men's and women's cross country titles at the SEC Championships Friday at the Gans Creek Cross Country Course.
This marks the 27th SEC crown for the Arkansas men, which is more than any other program. The Arkansas women's team claimed its ninth consecutive SEC title and 22nd overall, which also leads all programs. The Razorback men are ranked No. 6 nationally, while the women are ranked 15th.
Alabama's Eliud Kipsang claimed the men's individual 8K title with a time of 23:33.5, while Arkansas's Gilbert Boit was second in 23:37.0. Mario Garcia Romo was third in 23:38.2. Alabama's Mercy Chelangat took home the women's 6K title for the second year in a row in 19:55.2, ahead of Auburn's Joyce Kimeli (20:04.1) and Arkansas' Krissy Gear (20:08.1).
Arkansas won the men's title with 40 points, followed by Ole Miss (59), Missouri (105), Alabama (132) and Tennessee (169) to round out the top five.
The Arkansas women won with 68 points, finishing ahead of Ole Miss (83), Alabama (91), Kentucky (93) and fifth-place Tennessee (136).
The NCAA Cross Country Regionals are scheduled to take place Friday, Nov. 12.
