Arkansas Men, Georgia Women Lead After Day Two
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.----- The Alabama men's and Georgia women's teams lead the 2021 Southeastern Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships following the second day of competition Friday at The Randal Tyson Track Center.
The Arkansas men lead the team standings with 57 points, followed by LSU (34) and Ole Miss (25) to round out the top-three. Alabama (20) is fourth, followed by Auburn (19), Georgia (17), Tennessee (16), Texas A&M (16), Florida (15) and Missouri (8).
The Georgia women currently lead the team standings with 49 points, followed by Ole Miss (38) and Arkansas (37) to round out the top-three. LSU (36) is fourth, followed by Texas A&M (23), Florida (22), Auburn (16.5), Alabama (16), Kentucky (14), Tennessee (8), Mississippi State (7.5), South Carolina (4), Missouri (1) and Vanderbilt (1).
Garland wins men's heptathlon
Georgia sophomore Kyle Garland repeated as the SEC champion in the men's heptathlon with 6,012 points. That is the most points scored in the men's heptathlon since Georgia's Devon Williams set the meet record with 6,047 in 2017.
Individual champions crowned
LSU senior JuVaughn Harrison became the third athlete to win three consecutive outright men's SEC high jump crowns. Harrison won with a mark of 2.20m/7-2.5. He also claimed the men's long jump title, leaping 8.33m/27-4.
Ole Miss freshman Cole Bullock won the men's 5,000m in 13:59.10, the first Rebel to win the men's 5k since 2017.
Tyra Gittens of Texas A&M became the first Aggie to win the women's high jump with a mark of 1.89m/6-2.25. Gittens also won the women's long jump with a leap of 6.62m/21-8.75.
Julia Fixsen led a 1-2 Georgia finish in the women's pole vault with a mark of 4.40m/14-5.25. She is Georgia's first winner in the event since 2014. Auburn's Joyce Kimeli won the women's 5,000m in 15:46.88, the first Auburn winner in the women's 5k since 1998.
