Alabama Men, Auburn Women Lead in Oxford
OXFORD, Miss. (May 12, 2022) ---The Alabama men and Auburn women currently lead the 2022 Southeastern Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships following the opening day of competition, Thursday, at the Ole Miss Track & Field Complex.
The Alabama men currently lead the way with 29 team points, while Georgia is second with 17 and Arkansas is third with 16. Mississippi State (13) stands fourth, followed by LSU (12), Tennessee (11), Texas A&M (8), Auburn (6) and Florida (5).
The Auburn women lead with 23 points, while Alabama is second with 22 and Ole Miss is third with 17. Texas A&M (12) is fourth, followed by Arkansas (10), Georgia (9), Kentucky (8), Missouri (6), Tennessee (5), Vanderbilt (3) and South Carolina (2).
Georgia's Johannes Erm leads the men's decathlon with a total of 4,248 points, and Florida's Sterling Lester currently holds the lead in the women's heptathlon with a total of 3,537.
Individual champions crowned Thursday were: Auburn's Madi Malone in the women's hammer throw (69.39m), Alabama's Bobby Colantonio in the men's hammer throw (72.59m), Auburn's Ashley Carter in the women's javelin (54.90m), Mississippi State's DJ Jonsson in the men's javelin (76.39m), Alabama's Mercy Chelangat in the women's 10,000m (34:18.10) and Alabama's Victor Kiprop in the men's 10,000m (29:16.07).
The SEC Outdoor Track and Field Championships continue on Friday beginning at 1:45 p.m. CT with the men's decathlon 110 hurdles.
