Aggies lead after Day 1 of women's golf championship
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The 20th-ranked Texas A&M women's golf team carded a 6-under 282 Friday and stands first after one round of the SEC Women's Golf Championship at Greystone's Legacy Course.
Maddie Szeryk and Bianca Fabrizio led the way for the Aggies with a 3-under 69 and a 2-under 70, respectively, to finish day one in a tie for fourth and seventh.
No. 13 Arkansas is second on the team leaderboard with a 283, followed by No. 8 Florida (284), No. 11 South Carolina (286), No. 6 Georgia (287), Tennessee (287), Vanderbilt (287), Kentucky (291), LSU (294), No. 1 Alabama (295) and Mississippi State (295). Ole Miss fired a 296 and is in 12th ahead of Auburn (300) and Missouri (302).
South Carolina recorded 18 birdies on the day, while Arkansas had 17. Tennessee finished with two eagles.
Individually, South Carolina's Katelyn Dambaugh, Vanderbilt's Alexandra Farnsworth and Arkansas' Alana Uriell are tied for first at 4-under 68, one shot ahead of Szeryk, Georgia's Harang Lee and Tennessee's Anna Newell. Five players are just two shots back.
The second round of the three-day, 54-hole SEC Championship will begin Saturday at 8 a.m. CT. Live scoring is available at www.golfstat.com.
