Aggie women, men lead after Day 1 of SEC Championship

College Station, Texas -- The Texas A&M men and women lead the 2018 SEC Swimming & Diving Championships following the opening day of the event at Texas A&M's Rec Center Natatorium.

To begin the evening session, Brooke Schultz of Arkansas became the first Razorback to win the women's 1-meter springboard with a final score of 363.45. Lizzie Cui of LSU finished in second place with a score of 330.00. Nicole Gillis of Arkansas took third with a score of 323.85.

In the women's 200 medley relay, Tennessee's Micah Bohon, Tjasa Pintar, Madeline Banic and Erika Brown finished first with a time of 1:35.21. Texas A&M took second place with a time of 1:35.54, and Auburn earned a third-place finish with a time of 1:36.33.

Florida set the SEC meet record in the men's 200 medley relay as Michael Taylor, Chandler Bray, Jan Switkowski and Caeleb Dressel finished with a winning time of 1:22.94. Tennessee came in second (1:23.02), while Alabama took third place (1:23.58).

Tyler Henschel of Texas A&M won the men's 3-meter springboard for the second consecutive year with a final score of 469.05. Juan Celaya-Hernandez of LSU claimed second place with a score of 428.75, and Seb Masterton of Kentucky placed third with a score of 426.05.

Texas A&M's Katie Portz, Claire Rasmus, Kristin Malone and Sydney Pickrem posted the fastest time in the women's 800 free relay at 6:55.60. Georgia finished second (6:58.58), and Tennessee came in third (6:58.85).

Closing out the night, Florida's Switkowski, Maxime Rooney, Khader Baqlah and Mark Szaranek set the SEC record in the men's 800 free relay with a final time of 6:12.06. Missouri earned second place with a time of 6:15.38, and South Carolina finished third in a time of 6:17.27.

Day two of the 2018 SEC Swimming & Diving Championships begins on Thursday, Feb. 15 at 10 a.m. CT with the prelims for the 500 free, 200 IM, 50 free and men's 1-meter, followed by the finals of those events along with the 200 free relay starting at 6 p.m. CT. Both sessions can be viewed on SEC Network+.
